The Highland High School Bands
Highland High School opened in 1993. The band program has an enrollment of over 350 students which make up the 4 concert bands & 4 jazz bands that meet year round, a competitive marching band with 150+ performers, State Champion Winterguard, & State Champion Winter Concert Percussion Ensemble. The band program provides an outstanding music education and creates positive learning experiences for Highland's student musicians.
Highland has established a tradition of musical excellence. The concert, jazz, and marching bands frequently receive ratings of superior with distinction in Arizona festivals and competes in festivals and competitions all over the Southwest.
The Highland Wind Ensemble has been an Honored Performer at the Arizona Music Education Association State Conference in 2004 & 2009.
The Highland Marching Band has marched in two nationally televised parades: The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 2004 and the Tournament of Roses Parade on New Year's day in 2001. In addition, the Marching Band was the first band ever to win the ABODA Division I State Marching Band Championships in 2009.
The Highland Jazz Festival was founded and held at Highland High School. The festival is in its 4th year of providing a world class educational jazz festival included master classes from local jazz educators as well as clinics and concerts performed by world class jazz musicians including; Joe Lovano, John Fedchock, Wycliffe Gordon, Bob Mintzer, Jeff Coffin and his Mu’tet, & Bobby Shew. The festival concerts are held in cooperation with the ASU Concert Jazz Band directed by Michael Kocour.
